I agree, we need to do something and we have the resources. In addition to just another network of abstractors, we can develop a system that will give all of the independents the tools to provide their customers with the benefits they have traditionally gone to vendor management companies for. We can provide on-line order placement, order tracking, document delivery, the option to receive searches in digital form (XML, MISMO, etc...), and still keep the relationship direct between the abstractor and the client.
I am envisioning a system that would have a reasonable annual marketing fee, and a small transaction fee for the use of the technology. It would be a small price to pay to keep your customers working directly with you, rather than sending the order through a vendor management company that is looking to replace you with cheaper labor - or worse yet, on-line alternatives. By cutting out the middle man, we can probably provide the services they are looking for cheaper, and not have to cut our fees.
