Actually, the line is from "Henry VI, Part 2", act iv, scene ii.
If one reads the line in context, it is meant to convey the sentiment that lawyers and educated men are all that stands between society and anarchy. It is probably one of the most misunderstood of the Bard's quotes.
While I certainly understand their societal value, IMHO most (not all) attorneys (with no offense intended toward our esteemed F. Lee Ahearn) are a lot like the federal government...a necessary evil.
But, that's just me.
