I worry about this too because one of my daughters lives near San Fancisco. When I drove there for her wedding I was struck by the fact their are few major highways going into California at all. It would be difficult for evacuees to escape and just as difficult for rescue workers to get in.
Californians seem very complacent with living with the possibility of earthquakes and those in huricane zones seem comfortable with the possibility of hurricanes. We here in tornado alley are just as prone to go on with our lives without worrying about the occasional tornado.
