You are correct... some abstractors get too many unrequested copies. I have worked on projects for clients where I had to coordinate services from other independent abstractors and I am always shocked when I get a search back that consists of a list of volume and pages with a bunch of copies I don't need.
We only get copies when the clients request them (and the vesting deeds, of course), but we still have trouble recouping our copy costs from some of them. I just think that many don't really bother to look at the invoices, they just pay the search fee with some type of automated system.
I miss the days when we did the work, sent the bill... and it got paid in-full. We still have a few clients like that and God bless them.
