That is interesting. Though I am not totally opposed to the death penalty - in some cases, I think it is more than justified - I have to wonder is their really is a "humane" way to kill someone. Even if there is some pain involved, I don't think the lethal injection is "cruel" (anymore so than any other method of killing a person) or "unusual."
Lingering death has been a problem with the electric chair as well. I don't think there are many truly instant and painless ways to do it. Perhaps the closest would be the guillotine - but that, if not "cruel" and "unusual" is most definitely too gruesome for a civilized society.
