Please read the recent manuever by First American in the Colorado market.

I wonder what their independent agents in Colorado think about this? What's the matter, First American? Don't you think you're already big enough? Did you ever think about your independent agents out in Colorado? Couldn't you have used your tremendous resources to help them grow their business instead of lining your own bloated pockets with direct ops? If there are independent agents out there in any state who are still writing on First American paper after reading this, you really need to reconsider your business goals. If you're writing on First American because you like the local agent, unfortunately the local agent isn't going to be able to stop the corporate honchos from pulling this type of move in your state.
I don't intend this as target practice, but this type of practice by the underwriters really offends my sense of justice. Couple this with the fact that these are the same entities that are pushing for AfBAs that are screwing the independent agents and the consumers. Maybe you're one of those agents who is forced to have these AfBAs because its the only way to compete with the First Americans in the industry. I can't think of any other reason why anyone in the title business would willingly give away 1/2 or a portion of their profits. How's it working for all of you?
We as an industry need to move away from the type of leadership that is currently directing the market right now.
