As long as we are off topic...I just read a fascinating article on hand fasting. It is the ancient Celtic tradition of temporary marriage. Supposedly it was still recognized in Scotland until l939-l940 as its last refuge in the British Isles , and is still practiced among neo pagans and Wiccans. It is the agreement between two people to be married for whatever term they chose...a year and a day, until love died, for life or for many lifetimes.
During the ceremony their hands were bound together by a cord. It is the origin of the term " tying the knot" when referring to a wedding. What a great system... if the marriage was a disaster it ended at the agreed upon term without a blood thirsty divorce. If the marriage were a success it could be renewed for another year and a day or other term to which the parties agreed.
