GM is not truely "private industry". It is a firm traded on public exchanges. It is incorporated to protect from liability the officers and shareholders at the expense of the Citizens themselves.
None-the-less, I disagree with government or state being involved in the commerce of our nation. Fundamentally, I would prefer a banking system without the Fed, a Treasury that mints coins as real money of the realm and a commercial sector that does not rely upon artificial entities of statute to engage in trade. In this regard, I am a hardcore Libertarian and quite proud of it. The fundamental "Freedom" of our nation should be reserved to the individual American Nationals, and not to corporations or other privileged classes (like corporate officers).
With GM, they made their bed with government, so I'm not too sympathetic to the plight of people who have accepted their positions with this understanding, nor to the shareholders (including myself), who have not acted in sufficient numbers to exercise their shareholder votes.
What do I think about GM? I think GM should go into final bankruptcy and be closed down with all of its manufacturing facilities turned over to Tesla Motors with the mandate to make $1 cars that run on smiles and hippy farts. How's that for a plan?
