Clark County, Wisconsin Begins eRecording
press release

Electronic recording (e-recording) in Clark County is now available through Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service, providing the county’s customers with a faster, more cost-effective recording option online.

According to Clark County Register of Deeds Peggy Walter, her decision to implement e-recording "stemmed from the new and tougher" Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) regulations, which will go into effect later this year.

"Clark County is now able to assist title companies and banking industries in meeting certain aspects related to this regulatory process by offering the option to record documents electronically," Walter said. "The office will experience reduced costs as a result of electronic recording, including savings incurred by the office for postage and envelopes when mailing recorded paper documents and the return of rejected documents to a submitter."

Using Simplifile’s secure, web-based service, customers ranging from title companies to banks, attorneys, and lien filers, will have the ability to scan or upload and submit documents such as land records directly to Walter’s office and have them stamped, recorded, and returned in minutes.

"Our customers will also benefit from these cost savings, as well as realizing productivity gains with the immediate feedback from our office as to any document deficiencies and the immediate return of recorded images," Walter said.

Recording fees and payments can also be processed securely through Simplifile, eliminating check-writing expenses and reducing payment errors.

"I am truly impressed with how user friendly the program is," Walter added. "The implementation of Simplifile’s QuickStart program has proven to be the perfect solution for getting our county up and running with the electronic recording of documents."

"We’re excited to be working with Clark County and help provide them with this convenient service eliminates mailing costs and paper waste, among countless other benefits," said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile.

With the addition of Clark County, there are now 45 counties in the state of Wisconsin that have adopted e-recording with Simplifile. Nationwide, more than 1,240 counties also e-record with Simplifile.

High-speed Internet access, a PC, and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording with Simplifile.
