“E-Recording is the next step to improving efficiency in the recording process,” said Whatcom County Auditor Debbie Adelstein. “E-Recording speeds up the process for our customers, eliminating the time required to deliver the document to the recorder’s office and wait for its return. Documents can now be transmitted, recorded, and returned to the customer in the space of a few minutes. Customers also have the option to transmit documents on their schedules rather than waiting for our office open hours.”

Adelstein added that eliminating the steps required in handling paper documents helps the county manage their budget through improved work process and reduced staff time, and it also helps improve customer service.

“Our goal is to encourage as many of our customers as possible to make use of e-recording for those documents not requiring the Treasurer’s excise stamp,” Adelstein said. “A process for electronically processing excise documents is in the planning stages, at which time all documents could be recorded electronically. Eventually we hope to see a majority of our documents recorded electronically.”
